Rental Car Insurance 101

One of the things you will be offered when you pick up your Houston rental car is the option to add insurance for your rental package. While your rental agent should do a good job of explaining everything that is included in the insurance, it can be confusing to know what all the terms mean. Here is a brief overview of some of the car rental insurance offerings, so you can make the best decision for your circumstances:

Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)

This insurance covers the costs of medical care for yourself and your passengers, in case you are injured in a crash in your rental car.

Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)

Sometimes called a Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), this option may let you off the hook in case your rental car is damaged in a crash, vandalized, or stolen. This typically includes coverage for losses accrued by the rental company, while they repair the vehicle.

Personal Effects Coverage (PEC)

This type of insurance covers any of your personal items that may be damaged or stolen in your rental vehicle.

Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI)

This is designed to cover you if you happen to damage other vehicles or property while in your rental car. This may also cover medical expenses for anyone you may injure as result of these accidents.

While some people's car insurance coverage includes stipulations for rental cars, some do not. It's best to check with your insurance agent before reserving a car rental in Houston, and if you have any further questions, get in touch with our friendly representatives today at Ability Rent A Car!
